Ida Sconce

Ida Sconce

The Ida Sconce is a small-scale wall sconce built around one repeating shape: the circle. A brass ball-and-stem arm connects a powder-coated sphere to a frosted white glass globe, so the same form repeats three times down the fixture in three different materials — brass, colored steel, and opal glass. It's a compact, sculptural wall light, closer in scale and presence to a piece of jewelry than a traditional lighting fixture.

We named this sconce after Ida Kohlmeyer, a New Orleans painter and sculptor who spent decades building her own visual language out of repeating shapes and symbols. The circle was her most consistent motif — she used it across multiple bodies of work over the course of her career, filling grids of circles with different colors and gestures, later letting them float free of the grid entirely in her later paintings. It's the same idea behind this fixture: one simple shape, repeated, rendered differently each time.

The Ida works well anywhere you want a light fixture with more personality than wattage — flanking a bathroom mirror, mounted bedside in place of a table lamp, spaced down a hallway, or hung solo as a decorative wall light near a console or record player. It's a small-scale wall sconce with an outsized amount of character, and it reads as much as art as it does light. This fixture can be installed as a hardwired wall light with the globe pointing up or down.
